FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is not giving up. Despite increasingly loud naysaying--especially from broadcasters--Genachowski maintains that there is a spectrum crisis that could cripple a nationwide broadband wireless business.

"The spectrum crunch is real," Genachowski said during a North Carolina appearance to promote the Obama administration's national broadband plan. "If we don't do something about it we'll face lousy service and sky-high consumer prices."

The "something" Genachowski supported was redirecting Universal Service Fund fees to broadband wireless and auctioning TV broadcast spectrum.

Claiming that the U.S. is facing "dangerous complacency" on the issue of broadband wireless, Genachowski emphasized that "No one should be able to get through high school in this country without being digitally literate."
