More than 30 percent of homes in six neighborhoods in Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo., have already pre-registered for Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) new Google Fiber TV high-speed Internet and digital video product, according to the Internet giant.

As of Monday morning, 77 neighborhoods in the Kansas City area had generated the minimum number of pre-registrations for the $120 monthly service that Google has said that it will require to extend its fiber-to-the-home network. Google set pre-registration goals that require anywhere from 5 percent to 25 percent of homes in Kansas City neighorhoods to pre-register for the service before it will begin constrution.

More than 30 percent of the homes in four neighborhoods in Kansas City have already pre-registered for the service: Greenway Fields (39 percent); Wornall Homestead (37 percent); Countryside (32 percent); and Coleman Highlands (31 percent), according to Google. The neighborhoods in Kansas City, Kan., that have generated the most pre-registrations are Hanover Heights (32 percent) and Dubs Dread (30 percent), according to Google.

Google, which is challenging Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) and AT&T's (NYSE: T) U-verse TV in the Kansas City area, began accepting pre-registrations for the Google Fiber TV on July 26. It has taken less than five weeks for the company to generate pre-registrations that will allow it to build the fiber-to-the-home network to more than 100 neighborhoods.

"We're going to deploy our network where there is enough interest, and we're going to deploy soonest in areas where there is the most interest," Google Access general manager Kevin Lo said at the Google Fiber launch event last month.

Google said it plans to continue accepting pre-registrations from fiberhoods until Sept. 9. The company will then begin extending its 1-Gig network to homes in neighborhoods that have generated the most pre-registrations.
