Grande to deploy TiVo DVRs

TiVo (Nasdaq: TIVO) scored a deal to deploy its Premiere DVR on cable systems owned by Grande Communications in Texas.

The agreement follows similar deals TiVo has struck with RCN and Suddenlink Communications. While Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) and Cox Communications have pacts with TiVo that allow subscribers who buy a TiVo Premiere through a retail outlet to access their video-on-demand programming, it hasn't yet landed agreements with a major MSO to use Premiere as their primary DVR.

The Premiere DVR allows viewers to browse and search live TV, video-on-demand, Internet video, and content stored on the DVR. TiVo unveiled the device in December 2009.

Grande, which is using TiVo's multiroom DVR software as the foundation for its digital cable service, didn't say how much it will charge subscribers to lease the TiVo DVR when it begins deploying the product later this year. The company counts about 140,000 subscribers in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Midland, Odessa, San Antonio, San Marcos and Waco.
