HDBaseT incorporates and finalizes digital media specification

HDBaseT, a cross industry alliance fronted by LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Valente Semiconductor, is now an official organization with a finalized base specification that promotes whole-home distribution of uncompressed high definition multimedia content.

According to an HDBaseT news release, the alliance's technology converges "full uncompressed HD video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, high power over cable and other various control signals through a single ... CAT5e/6 LAN cable so a single connector TV can get power, audio/video, internet and control signals "from the same cable."

"HDBaseT technology is poised to become the unrivaled next-generation home networking transport to meet the ever-changing trends in the digital media market," the release, with appropriate breathlessness, pronounced.
