IDC: Sales of connected gaming consoles will top 165M by 2017

Sales of Internet-connected gaming consoles such as Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Xbox and the Sony PlayStation will jump to more than 165 million annually by 2017, International Data Corp. predicted in a research report released Wednesday. That may be good news for pay TV distributors such as AT&T (NYSE: T) and Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC), which have developed apps that allow subscribers to use gaming consoles to watch subscription video programming. IDC said it expects CE manufacturers to ship 33 million game console bundles in 2013, which would be "marginally higher" than shipments in 2012. Read more
