Kagan: Retransmission consent fees could hit $3B by 2015
The fees local broadcasters collect from cable operators, telephone companies and satellite TV providers that want to carry their signal in basic video subscription packages could jump to $3 billion by 2015, according to new estimates from SNL Kagan.
TV stations and broadcast networks that get a cut of retransmission consent revenue are relying more on the fees to boost revenue. But pay TV distributors continue to fight demands that they pay increased fees for retransmission consent, arguing that the content stations offer is available for free to any home with an over-the-air antenna.
