Knology gains 2,100 video subscribers in Q3 2011
Cable overbuilder Knology (Nasdaq: KNOL) said it picked up 2,093 video subscribers during the third quarter, along with 3,289 new voice subscribers and 6,590 high-speed Internet customers.
The Georgia-based company--which competes with Charter Communications (Nasdaq: CHTR), Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) and other cable operators in parts of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Tennessee, South Carolina and South Dakota--saw revenue increase by 15.1 percent in the third quarter to $130 million.
The hottest product in Knology's triple play is its high-speed Internet service, which has grown its subscriber base by 21 percent in the last year to 258,715 subscribers at the end of the third quarter. Knology has grown its video customers by 11.5 percent to 257,929 since the third quarter of 2010, and its voice customers have increased by 8.6 percent to 276,364.
While Knology's cable rivals are also posting strong growth in high-speed Internet customers, most major cable MSOs are losing basic video subscribers each quarter to cable overbuilders and satellite TV rivals.
