All's not gloom on the retransmission front. Mediacom and Sinclair Broadcast Group--an organization still embroiled in a bitter fight with Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC-WI)--have signed a new two-year retransmission deal that covers 22 stations in 16 markets.

Barry Faber, Sinclair's executive vice president and general counsel and a man who's been getting more than his share of ink through sharp remarks aimed at Time Warner Cable, was magnanimous about Mediacom's "professional and reasonable approach ... which led to a mutually acceptable deal with no threat of service interruption to their subscribers."

The two players had been operating under a one-year agreement that they reached last January.
