Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), which has seemingly forever nibbled around the edges of TV, has its chompers in place again, the rumor sphere says, with an Xbox service that would combine the Redmond giant's Mediaroom IPTV services and Xbox Live.

While always rumored, this entry into TV could happen as early as today, according to Gamepro.com, which reported that "Microsoft is currently running some last-minute Hail Mary negotiations" and the company is "currently on PR lockdown."

Rumors have it that the software company is planning to be a "virtual cable operator" with services delivered monthly via the Xbox. The announcement, if it happens, could be the second TV service incursion this week as Microsoft's uber rival Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is expected to jump into the video pool with its iCloud offering.
