Microsoft has mothballed a project aimed at marketing a virtual cable service to TV viewers, Reuters reported Thursday. While the software giant has struck deals with pay TV distributors Comcast and Verizon to offer access to a limited amount of cable programming through its Xbox 360 gaming consoles, the company has had difficulties lining up deals with cable programmers that allow it to market a broad lineup of TV channels that would let it compete head-to-head with pay TV providers.
