Carey, who has championed the idea of broadcasters demanding increased retransmission-consent fees from cable operators and satellite TV providers, will sit down for a Q&A with NAB CEO Gordon Smith during the opening general session on April 8, NAB said. Smith will also give an address about the state of the broadcast industry during the session.

Last year, News Corp. pulled all full-length TV episodes from Fox.com, deciding it would only allow pay TV subscribers from providers that have authentication deals with News Corp. to access its programming online. Carey has been a proponent of tying multiplatform video distribution deals to retransmission-consent agreements. He has also criticized the industry's TV Everywhere authentication platforms, emphasizing that pay TV providers, programmers and technology providers need to make it easier for consumers to watch TV shows on the Web and mobile devices. Look for Carey to discuss his views on TV Everywhere and retransmission consent during his talk with Smith.

"As a leading executive of one of the world's preeminent media companies, Chase Carey has valuable insight into today's multi-platform global media environment," Smith said in Monday's announcement.
