Olbermann departure roils Comcast conspiracy theorists

Conspiracy theorists are spinning theories about conspiracies after left-leaning Keith Olbermann suddenly left his microphone at MSNBC just days after Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) acquired its parent company NBC Universal.

While most reports now indicate that the timing of the two events was probably likely coincidental (you don't have to be a conspiracy theorist to see connections between any two similar events) they're hardly enough to keep those who distrust Comcast from seeing a more sinister angle.

"Either Comcast 'fired' him or he saw the writing on the wall, the same way a government official might 'resign' or be 'fired' and the distinction is often without a difference," Marvin Ammori, a Nebraska Law professor and former Free Press advisor told The Hill.

Comcast of course denied any involvement, noting a pledge that it would "not interfere with NBC Universal's news operations." Of course, that terminology, "news operations" when linked to Olberman opens still more conspiracy options.
