Redbox recruits In Demand and Frontier veteran David Asch for top programming job
Redbox recruited former In Demand Networks and Frontier Communications (Nasdaq: FTR) executive David Asch, naming him SVP of content and strategy, the company announced Thursday.
Redbox, which plans to launch a streaming video service through a joint venture with Verizon (NYSE: VZ) called Redbox Instant by Verizon, said that Asch will focus on licensing new release movies and videogames. He'll be based in Santa Monica, Calif.
A graduate of Stanford and Harvard University, Asch had been SVP of video, Internet and content services at Frontier, managing the rural telco's deals to resell Dish Network and DirecTV programming. He worked earlier at In Demand Networks, the pay-per-view and video-on-demand content provider that is owned by Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Bright House Networks.
Redbox didn't say what role Asch may play in the Redbox Instant streaming video joint venture with Verizon. Last month, Redbox and Verizon said that five Verizon executives had been assigned to the leadership at the joint venture, including Shawn Strickland and Joe Ambeault.
