Broadcasters are relying more on retransmission-consent fees from cable operators and satellite providers to make up for declining ad-sales revenue. Retransmission fees jumped 46.7 percent last year to $1.03 billion, according to Veronis Suhler Stevenson. While broadcasters are seeing increased ad spending for their mobile and online platforms, total ad spending is expected to decline in 2011 to $47.18 billion. Read more
