Rovi: Cable subscribers spend 15 minutes daily on IPG
Cable subscribers are spending more than 15 minutes per day using Rovi Corp.'s (Nasdaq: ROVI) interactive program guides to channel surf, the company told analysts Tuesday.
The average cable subscriber accesses Rovi's guide more than 10 times daily, Rovi CEO Fred Amoroso told analysts during the company's second-quarter earnings call, citing data Rovi is collecting from 300,000 set-tops deployed by cable MSOs in 15 markets. Rovi, which sells advertising on the IPG, plans to tout the usage data to media buyers, he added.
Also worth noting from Rovi's second-quarter earnings report and conference call:
- Rovi expects its new TotalGuide IPG to reach more than 10 million subscribers with 12 to 24 months.
- Excluding revenue from pre-paid licensing deals with Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) and Dish Network(Nasdaq: DISH), Rovi generated $133 million in IPG revenue, up from $124 million it posted during the same period last year.
- The number of subscribers that use Rovi's Passport or iGuide IPGs jumped 29 percent to 18 million during the second quarter.
