Rural telcos push FCC to rethink USF reform program
In today's spotlight, FierceTelecom takes a look at attempts from rural telephone companies to get the FCC to reconsider its new rules that regulate the Universal Service Fund. The Organization for the Promotion and Advancement of Small Telecommunications Companies (OPASTCO), the Western Telecommunications Alliance (WTA) and the National Exchange Carrier Association (NECA) filed a joint petition asking the FCC to reconsider how it will fund broadband expansion in rural areas. Among its requests, the group wants the FCC to reduce burdens associated with new reporting requirements for smaller companies. Cable operators have also complained about the new USF rules, arguing the FCC will allocate more money to telcos. Special Report
