Samsung ponders TVs with built-in Android OS

Korean TV set maker Samsung is reportedly considering building sets with Google's Android operating system built in as a way to provide quick and relatively inexpensive access to websites through the TV.

Other set makers like Panasonic, Vizio and Sony have been toying with widgets that appear on the TV and link to websites but using their own TV software. Android, because it is open source, would simplify things considerably. Samsung uses Android in some of its smartphones and reportedly its competitor, Sony, has joined Intel in collaborating with Google on Android set-top boxes and TVs.
