Sony's Gracenote teams with DG to sell targeted ads for connected TVs
Sony subsidiary Gracenote said it struck a deal with advertising network DG to pitch marketers ads that will run on connected TVs, tablet computers and mobile phones.
The companies could pose more competition for cable operators and other pay TV distributors that are looking to boost revenue by selling multiplatform advertising. In addition to placing ads on TVs connected to the Internet, Gracenote and DG said they will run ads on tablets and other second screen devices that are synchronized with programming running on a TV.
Gracenote and DG face competition from YuMe, which announced last week that it struck deals with Buick, Discover Boating and Mindshare to deliver interactive advertising on connected TVs.
