Like politics, all television--or at least the most watched television--is local. That's the premise behind new technology being offered by TelVue, a Mount Laurel, N.J.-based company run by cable pioneer Gerry Lenfest which will showcase its new line of IPTV Princeton HyperCaster digital broadcasters at next week's NAB Show.

The new HyperCaster units, the company said, can support up to 20 pure digital MPEG-2 or H.264 IP broadcast channels in one box to deliver increased channel density and reduce channel delivery cost. The product will "change the way cable and telco companies and broadcasters view and support community-centric and hyperlocal programming," said President-CEO Jesse Lerman in a company news release.

The product is expected to launch in the third quarter of this year whereupon service providers will be able to launch new local channels, DTV "dot" channels, converge existing leased access and LO channels to all digital and offer private channels as commercial offerings while supporting both standard and high definition, EBIF and an integrated workflow, the company said.
