Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) said Wednesday that its digital phone subscribers can now use apps on PCs and Mac computers to make phone calls while traveling outside their homes and have the calls included in their unlimited monthly calling plans.

The MSO said subscribers who install its VoiceZone Connect app will be able to make phone calls from any location by using the new "Click to Call" feature. The upgrade could allow subscribers who visit hotels or other locations to make phone calls without having to use a mobile phone or an external phone that charges fees to make calls. Time Warner Cable said subscribers can use Click to Call by entering up to five different "My Location" phone numbers for remote locations which it will use to connect calls to other parties.

Time Warner Cable launched the VoiceZone apps last fall. It initially used the apps to let subscribers transcribe voicemails and send incoming calls to voicemail by using their remote controls. The MSO said Wednesday that the upgrade also lets subscribers choose unique ringtone notifications for private, urgent and new voicemails.
