Time Warner Cable adds VOD content to TWC TV app for PCs and Macs
Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) said its digital cable subscribers can now access content from its video-on-demand library through the TWC TV app it has developed for PCs, laptops and Apple's line of Mac computers.
The MSO, which also distributes TWC TV apps for smartphones, tablets and other devices, launched the PC/Mac app early last year. Until last Thursday, when Time Warner Cable updated the software, subscribers could only use the PC/Mac app to watch live cable programming.
In January, Time Warner Cable announced it would build a version of the TWC TV app for Roku over-the-top video set-tops that subscribers could use to watch 300 live cable channels. But the Roku app, scheduled to launch during the first quarter, doesn't offer access to VOD programming.
Time Warner Cable is also developing similar apps for connected TVs from Samsung and other consumer electronics manufacturers.
