Time Warner Cable, NBCUniversal ranked best cable companies for women
Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) was ranked as the best cable operator for women in the cable industry, while NBCUniversal is the best programmer, according to Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT).
WICT said women represent 43 percent of the overall cable workforce, and that the group saw a 5 percent increase in the number of women in senior management positions. But WICT said that it saw a 5 percent decrease in the number of women holding positions in digital media.
While WICT didn't offer numerical scores to rank the best workplaces for women in the cable industry, it named five "best operators" of 2011: Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA), Bright House Networks and Suddenlink Communications. The group said the best programmers ranked in its survey are NBCUniversal, Turner Broadcasting, Scripps Networks Interactive, Discovery Communications (Nasdaq: DISCA) and ESPN.
The association said 25 companies participated in its 2011 PAR Survey, which measures pay equity, advancement opportunities and resources for work/life support. The survey represented 54 percent of the overall cable workforce, according to WICT.
