TiVo launches Spotify app on Premiere DVR
TiVo (Nasdaq: TIVO) launched a streaming music app from Spotify on its Premiere DVR Tuesday--a move that could help it compete with service providers that are offering subscribers DVRs that stream rival streaming music services Pandora and SiriusXM.
Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) offers subscribers in several markets access to a Pandora app through its cloud-based Xfinity X1 service. DirecTV (Nasdaq: DTV) features Pandora music channels on its satellite TV service, while Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH) distributes 73 music channels from SiriusXM to subscribers that order its new Hopper multiroom DVR.
TiVo said subscribers will have to sign up for a Spotify Premium account, which costs $9.99 monthly, in order to stream Spotify songs on its Premiere DVRs. TiVo also offers subscribers music from Pandora, Rhapsody, Music Choice and Live365.
