Trident grabs Comcast as DTA chipset customer

Trident Microsystems is making a move on more traditional cable TV chipset makers with a digital transport adapter (DTA) chip that supports several security and encryption technologies, and--more importantly--has the support of Comcast. The chips help cable transition from analog to digital.

According to a statement in a Trident news release attributed to Steve Reynolds, Comcast's senior VP of customer premise equipment, the chipsets will let the MSO "reclaim the bandwidth needed to provide digital services into millions of homes across our entire network infrastructure."
