EPIX was born for TV Everywhere. The new programming service, backed by Viacom, MGM and Lions Gate Entertainment, has positioned itself as a bleeding edge multi-platform provider and has signed up launches with Charter Communications, Cox Communications and Mediacom Communications along the way.

Traditional cable programmers offer traditional television to traditional subscribers who must be weaned away from the traditional and onto multi-platform formats. EPIX, which does offer 24/7 linear programming and VoD, comes in with a fresh approach of using its website to stream programming in 720p format.

What's attractive to MSOs, in addition to the younger audience this sort of approach attracts, is that subscribers will be more inclined to purchase faster--and of course more expensive--broadband data packages to see the programming at its best.
