Several local TV stations are beginning to experiment with delivering content to viewers through over-the-top video set-tops.

Flingo application

Flingo's OTT app

Connected TV application developer Flingo has developed apps for several TV stations, including Cox Media Group Fox affiliate KTVU-TV in San Francisco and Cox's KIRO-TV station in Seattle. Flingo CEO Ashwin Navin told TVNewscheck that the company has developed connected TV apps for several other TV stations that he wouldn't identify.

Some stations are also beginning to develop apps that can run on Roku's over-the-top video set-top, including Dispatch Broadcast Group's WTHR-TV in Columbus, Ohio, and Landmark Communciations KLAS-TV in Las Vegas.

Developing apps for connected TVs could help local TV stations boost viewership and ad revenue. The increased demand for content on connected TVs also bodes well for high-speed Internet providers that sell monthly broadband subscriptions to viewers with connected TVs.
