TWC turns to Motorola for connected home management
Orlando, Fla. -- Motorola Mobility has been busy at this week's SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Orlando, making several announcements, chief among them that Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) is deploying the Motorola EDGE Manager to better manage connected home devices and services.
The EDGE Manager product enables seamless unified management of data and video services in both traditional and IP-based service environments. It can handle complex device applications, like multiscreen video, in parallel with WiFi gateways, and can let service providers like TWC view service operating in real-time so they can recognize developing issues that could affect their customers.
Motorola Mobility also announced at the show that it has successfully deployed DOCSIS Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (SCDMA) technology with Norwood Light Broadband in Norwood, Mass., and Cablevision Mexico. DOCSIS SCDMA can increase available upstream spectrum to improve broadband Internet performance, and in the cases of both these deployments will allow the operators to double their current upstream bandwidth potential.
Motorola Mobility also had a product announcement related to the emerging cloud TV evolution. The company, in partnership with Telco Systems, unveiled its T-Metro 8000 high-density and MPLS Service Aggregation Platform to support customer cloud connectivity.
