IP networking products vendor UTStarcom has opened the throttle on its TV business with a full-featured cloud computing-based Internet TV service.

The Internet TV platform, which will be rolled out later this year through UTStarcom subsidiary iTV Media, lets subscriber access the Internet for multimedia and telecommunications. It also provides an interactive digital TV platform and video-on-demand.

As perhaps a trial before the rollout, UTStarcom said it will build an operational system with a broadcasting control platform, content distribution network and terminal for a local cable operator in Northern China. The system will not have all the bells and whistles promised from the Internet TV service but those can be added later, the vendor has said.
