Verizon, Mediacom score Fox TV Everywhere content
Two months after pulling its free ad-supported series from Fox.com and Hulu, Fox Networks said Tuesday that it struck deals with Verizon's (NYSE: VZ) FiOS TV and Mediacom which will allow cable subscribers to access full-length episodes of Glee, Family Guy and other hit series online.
Fox, which has also struck a similar deal with Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH), is one of the first broadcasters to push viewers to use TV Everywhere authentication in order to access its programming online. Fox executives have said that they want to tie online video distribution deals to retransmission consent agreements that it strikes for its local TV stations. Its strategy could help pay TV distributors retain subscribers that have been considering dropping pay TV service.
