Verizon, Sprint, USTelecom fight Universal Service Fund reform
Add Sprint, Verizon and the USTelecom Association to the list of parties that are fighting the FCC on its attempts to realign the Universal Service Fund. In October, the FCC said it would shift some of the money it collects from local telephone customers to help construct broadband networks in rural areas. The FCC's USF plans have been challenged by AT&T and the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association, and cable operators have also complained that telcos are getting more money allocated from the fund.
