Waters rages on against Comcast; rips FCC's conditions

The conditions the FCC attached when approving Comcast's (Nasdaq: CMCSA) NBC Universal takeover aren't strong enough and are nothing "Comcast-NBC did not agree to or previously offer as their 'public interest commitments' early in the review process," said California Congresswoman Maxine Waters, a longtime foe of the deal.

Waters especially questioned Comcast's commitment to launch more independent programming based on her perception of how networks find space on the MSO's lineup.

"I do not believe the American public can have much confidence in Comcast-NBCU's commitment to launch 10 new independent channels when current networks have had so many challenges negotiating reasonable carriage terms with the cable giant," she said.
