We're number 9! U.S. broadband lags world leaders

The U.S. has nestled into ninth place--behind Korea and the U.K. but ahead of Japan and Slovenia--in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development survey of international broadband adoption and broadband speeds.

The U.S., which admittedly has some wide open spaces to penetrate in order to increase its overall averages, managed to be ninth in both broadband penetration on a per capita basis and speeds.

Locally, Olympia, Wash. reported the highest average download speeds (21 Mbps) and New York came in second at 11.7 Mbps. Both were well below Berlin, Paris and Seoul, all of which average 35.87 Mbps.
