Charter Communications has named veteran GOP political operative and hotel and lodging industry lobbyist Vanessa Green Sinders to its government affairs team.
Sinders will assume a senior VP title and report to Catherine Bohigian, executive VP of government affairs for the No. 2 U.S. cable operator.
Sinders spent the last four-plus years heading governmental affairs for the American Hotel and Lodging Association, overseeing the association’s advocacy work at the federal, state and local levels. She was also an adviser to the association’s president and CEO on all policy and political issues.
Before that, she was chief of staff for former Senator Scott Brown, R-Mass., as well as chief of staff for the Republican-led “Campaign to Fix the Debt.”
Indeed, Sinders' lines into the Republican lawmaking waters run deep, with the Dartmouth-educated executive also once serving as a policy director for Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H.
Of course, adding a government affairs staffer with extensive GOP ties is smart business, as Charter looks to sway a Congress, White House and FCC, all controlled by Republicans at this point.
"With her extensive policy background and success managing teams, Vanessa will be a tremendous asset to our company,” Bohigian said.
