DirecTV launches loyalty program with social TV service Viggle

DirecTV (Nasdaq: DTV) launched a loyalty program Thursday in which it will give subscribers who use social TV service Viggle to recommend programs to friends rewards ranging from movie tickets to gift cards.

The satellite TV provider, which also has deals with social TV networks GetGlue, Miso and BuddyTV Guide, said subscribers will be able to collect points by using Viggle to "check into" various TV programs or movies. DirecTV is encouraging subscribers to link their accounts to Viggle in order to receive points that could be redeemed for free pay-per-view movies.

DirecTV and Viggle said that they also plan to integrate their products, which could one day allow subscribers who access Viggle on a smartphone or tablet to use the devices to control their DirecTV set-tops.
