Hulu announced that it has forged deals with seven more smaller-market CBS affiliates, upping the number of local CBS stations available on its virtual MVPD service to 115.
The additional CBS markets include San Diego, California; Biloxi-Gulfport, Mississippi; Wichita Falls/Lawton and Amarillo, Texas; Honolulu, Hawaii; Charlotte, North Carolina; Charleston, South Carolina; Tucson, Arizona; Baton Rouge and Shreveport, Louisiana; Paducah-Cape, Missouri; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
CBS has 222 affiliate stations, but Hulu is at the point at which it's forming deals from the network’s smallest local markets.
Hulu now has close to 200 local stations signed up for its live service, including 33 Fox stations.
Access to local Big Four broadcast network affiliates and owned-and-operated stations has become an important differentiator in the vMVPD market, in which services are priced roughly the same, and skinny channel lineups aren’t all that different, either.
Earlier this week, AT&T announced that it forged an agreement with CBS Corp. to access to the network’s 16 O&Os.
Sony, meanwhile, also said that it had lined up seven more CBS affiliates for its PlayStation Vue vMVPD service.
Vue now has deals covering 106 CBS stations.
