AT&T (NYSE: T) said Monday that its U-verse TV subscribers can access the WatchESPN app on smartphones, tablets and Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Xbox 360 gaming console.
The telco's launch of the popular TV Everywhere service comes about two months after it signed a multiplatform carriage deal with ESPN parent Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS). AT&T said it U-verse subscribers will get access to the WATCH Disney Junior app on March 29, and that its agreement with Disney will also see it launch TV Everywhere apps for Disney Channel and Disney XD.
Distributing WatchESPN and other Disney apps to U-verse TV subscribers could help AT&T compete with Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA), Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) and other pay TV rivals that already offer the apps to their customers.
