Cablevision (NYSE: CVC) veteran Jim Maiella joined AMC Networks (Nasdaq: AMCX) as SVP of corporate communications, the company said Wednesday.

Maiella, who had been VP of media relations at Cablevision, has experience that could help AMC communicate during disputes that it has with pay TV distributors, including Cable One. AMC's contract with Cable One expires on Friday. The Phoenix-based MSO says AMC is demanding a 398 percent increase in license fees. In February, Cable One had said AMC was demanding a 520 percent increase in license fees.
AMC said Maiella will report to EVP of Communications & Marketing Ellen Kroner and that he'll work closely with Georgia Juvelis, who also holds the title of SVP of corporate communications and is adding corporate communications and marketing responsibilities to her role.
Cablevision spun off AMC, which was formerly known as Rainbow Media, in 2011. Maiella isn't the first communications executive from Cablevision to join one of its spin-offs. Former Cablevision exec Kimberly Kerns is SVP of communications at The Madison Square Garden company, whose chairman is Cablevision CEO Jim Dolan.
Maiella is a former journalist who was director of media relations at cable overbuilder RCN Corp. before joining Cablevision in 2002. He's also the immediate past president of the Association of Cable Communicators and serves on the group's executive committee.
"Jim brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new position," Kroner said in Wednesday's announcement. "I'm confident that his strategic messaging expertise and solid media relationships will bring great value to AMC Networks and its brands."
