Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH) said Media General is threatening to pull 17 TV stations in 16 markets unless it agrees to pay increased retransmission-consent fees by June 30.
Media General is also warning viewers on stations that air programing from CBS, NBC and ABC that they may lose its feed on Sunday if they are Dish customers. "If a new retransmission consent contract is not reached by then, by law, Dish cannot carry certain local television stations owned, operated, or serviced by Media General Inc. on its satellite system," Media General wrote in statements posted on its station websites.
In April, Media General reported that it saw retransmission-consent revenue increase by $4.8 million in the first quarter and that retrans revenue is up 55 percent so far this year.
