France's Technicolor and chip vendor Entropic said they are teaming up to build a thin client set-top that is based on Comcast's (Nasdaq: CMCSA) Reference Design Kit software.
The companies said that the device, when linked to video gateways that Comcast and other major MSOs are deploying, would be able to deliver IP video to multiple set-tops and other IP devices in subscriber homes.
Technicolor supplies digital terminal adapters to Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC), Mediacom, and other cable MSOs. It has also been pitching cable operators tablet computers that could be supplied to subscribers to deliver video and replace traditional remote controls.
