Belkin says it will soon begin selling a $149 set-top called "@TV," which the company is positioning as a competitor to EchoStar's (Nasdaq: SATS) Slingbox place-shifting receiver.
In addition to developing the @TV set-top, Belkin is selling a $12.99 app in the Apple App Store and Google's Play Android storefront that allows smartphone users to watch live and recorded programming from a cable or satellite set-top or a DVD player. Belkin said @TV can also deliver content to PC and Mac computers, and that it can be delivered through WiFi, 3G and 4G connections.
EchoStar supplies Slingbox to Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH), and the company also markets the product to cable subscribers.
Belkin said that it will begin selling @TV in July.
