Cable in the second quarter of 2011
The following table lists earnings among the top MSOs (multiple system operators) in the United States during the second quarter of 2011.
While the second quarter brought impressive gains for some--Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) posted 50 percent higher revenues compared to the same period last year--video subscribers continued to fall away. Even satellite operators, whose subscriber numbers rose in Q1, struggled this quarter with new subscriber adds dwindling to just 26,000 for DirecTV (Nasdaq: DTV) and Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH) posting a 135,000-subscriber loss.
Despite the downward trend in video subs, the top service providers posted revenue gains, thanks in part to continued growth in broadband Internet subscriptions as well as voice line additions.
The chart lists the top 6 service providers--both cable and satellite--from highest revenue posted to lowest.
