Pace MG1 - Top 6 Super DVRs
Formerly branded the XG1 home video gateway, the Pace (LSE: PIC.L) MG1 is the generic version of the Xfinity X1 DVR that Comcast began rolling out in 2012.
The hybrid media server can transcode QAM cable channels into IP video and deliver video to multiple set-tops and other IP-connected devices in subscriber homes.
The MG1 comes with hard disk drives that allow distributors to offer storage space ranging from 500 gigabytes to 2 terabytes and also allow subscribers to attach external drives for extra storage.
Pace, which surpassed Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) in the second quarter as the biggest worldwide set-top vendor, has struck deals with both large MSOs and smaller cable operators to deploy the MG1. Mediacom Communications announced a deal to deploy the MG1 earlier this month, and Alaska's GCI announced in August that it would deploy the video gateway.
