Comcast goes all-digital in Sacramento, Martha's Vineyard
Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) is nearing the completion of a switch to all-digital lineups in Sacramento, Calif., and Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, which will help the MSO expand channel capacity in those markets.
While Comcast only faces competition from DirecTV (Nasdaq: DTV) and Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH) on Martha's Vineyard, the MSO is battling AT&T's (NYSE: T) U-verse TV in Sacramento. Its move to an all-digital lineup could help it compete for subscribers, since it will also be able to offer fast Internet access services.
AT&T announced earlier this month that it had expanded the availability of its U-verse product to 500,000 homes in the Sacramento area.
Comcast has notified customers in Sacramento that they have until Sept. 13 to install digital converter boxes. Comcast has said it plans to convert all systems nationwide to an all-digital lineup.
