GCI deploys TiVo-powered Pace XG1 gateways
GCI is deploying TiVo on the XG1 gateway, which contains six tuners. Comcast is using the XG1 to power its X1 service as well.
GCI began to deploy TiVo's four-turner Premiere DVR last year, and it started offering multiroom DVR subscribers the TiVo mini companion set-top in March. The company may be able to reduce capital spending by rolling out TiVo on the Pace set-tops.
"The Pace offering in the United States is one that a number of our MSO customers are very interested in. Some will begin their rollout of TiVo with our hardware. But clearly, there was a view that Pace as a major manufacturer could have a high-quality lower cost hardware solution than our TiVo hardware represents," TiVo CEO Tom Rogers told analysts on an earnings call in November 2012.
GCI is the first cable operator to deploy TiVo on the XG1. With the TiVo - Pace software integration complete, TiVo Premiere customers such as Mediacom and Cable One may be able to deploy the Pace DVRs.
