The new Logitech Revue Google TV (Nasdaq: GOOG) device is "at its core, a set-top box, packing HDMI-out, two USB ports, Wi-Fi and Ethernet which will cost $300" (unless you're a Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH) subscriber and can get it for $180) according to a review on website POPSCI. The box is "much more capable than the Apple TV... but to get the full Revue package you'd have to spend enough to buy four ... Apple TV units."

On the other side of the competitive front, traditional cable supplier Motorola (NYSE: MOT) may have its own new box in the works to keep its cable and telco customers happy, Co-Chief Executive Sanjay Jha told CNBC. Other than saying the products will be "very interesting," Jha was apparently coy on what Moto had in mind for the likes of Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) and Verizon(NYSE: VZ), both of whom are in Google's sights.

The third piece of the video entertainment puzzle may be more problematic. Samsung, which leads the way with connected TVs designed to handle all these new over-the-top services, has issued weak earnings guidance for its world-leading chip business based on slowing TV and computer demand.
