Joe Waz to retire from Comcast after 17 years

Just when it appeared that Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) was trying to stuff too many chiefs into a single wigwam, one brave left the fold. Joe Waz, senior vice president of external affairs and public policy counsel, announced his retirement from the MSO after 17 years dealing with public policy issues in Washington, D.C.

"While we'd love Joe to delay his (April 30) retirement, he's told us he can't wait any longer to start this new phase of his life," where he will move to the West Coast and start a part-time consulting firm ... with Comcast as his first client," EVP David Cohen told Broadcasting & Cable.

Waz's departure comes at a time when Comcast is beefing up its Washington regulatory staff, especially with the addition of former NCTA President-CEO Kyle McSlarrow as president of Comcast/NBCU Washington and head of the MSO's public policy office. It also comes at the end of a grueling years-long struggle to acquire NBC Universal.
