AT&T's (NYSE: T) proposed $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile is in jeopardy, after the U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit aimed at blocking the deal.

DOJ said it is concerned that the acquisition would thwart innovation in the wireless sector, and result in higher prices for mobile telecom services for consumers.

The lawsuit could impact other potential deals in the broadband wireless sector, including talks that Sprint (NYSE: S)  has reportedly had with cable MSOs about increasing their investment in Clearwire (Nasdaq: CLWR).
