Motorola Mobility pitches Edgecast's CDN platform to operators
Motorola Mobility (NYSE: MMI) said it is teaming up with content delivery network platform provider EdgeCast to sell its CDN platform to its cable operator customers.
Under the agreement the companies announced Tuesday, Motorola said it will distribute EdgeCast's advanced network provisioning, monitoring and management solutions. Adding CDN solutions to its product portfolio lets Motorola supply cable MSOs with technology that could help them deliver video to IP devices such as smartphones and tablet computers, in addition to cable video-on-demand platforms. Motorola said operators would also be able to offer EdgeCast's CDN products directly to cable programmers.
"Working with EdgeCast provides us the ability to offer our customers simple and fast access to a proven CDN environment that enables the delivery of IP video on-demand and nDVR cloud based services directly to the multi-device, multi-screen enabled consumer," Joe Cozzolino, Motorola Mobility senior VP and general manager of network infrastructure solutions, said in Tuesday's announcement. "EdgeCast's CDN solution will immediately enable service providers the ability to efficiently delivery multi-screen IP content, and if desired, an option to generate additional revenue by offering their CDN services directly to content providers," he added.
