Former FCC Chairman Michael Powell will get the opportunity to look at regulatory issues from the other side of the fence now that he's been named the NCTA's president-CEO, replacing Kyle McSlarrow who just recently left to join Comcast.

With eight years experience at the federal agency, Powell had plenty of experience dealing with issues that affect what he called "a dynamic and highly innovative industry," he said in a news release. He'll step into the job April 25 with such hot potato issues as retransmission consent, net neutrality and broadband spectrum sizzling on his desk.

Powell "is one of the most well respected and influential visionaries in all of telecommunications," said NCTA Chairman Pat Esser, whose full-time job is as president of Cox Communications, in the same news release.
