Pace supplying servers for DirecTV Home Media Center

Pace (LSE: PIC) landed a deal to supply servers for DirecTV's (Nasdaq: DTV) Home Media Center, a multi-room DVR service that the top satellite provider plans to launch next month.

DirecTV will use Pace's HR34 servers as the central hub in its Home Media Center. Containing 1 terabyte of storage, the HR34 uses the Multimedia over Coax (MoCA) standard and the RVU protocol to share content with set-tops and connected devices throughout a home, including PCs, laptops, tablet computers and Blu-ray players.

The DirecTV deal is big score for Pace, which edged rival set-top vendor Motorola Mobility during the second quarter in revenue from set-top sales. The rollout of the Home Media Center will help DirecTV compete with other pay TV providers marketing that market multi-room DVRs to their subscribers, including Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH), Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA), Cox Communications and Verizon (NYSE: VZ).
